What is reflux and what causes it?

What is reflux and what causes it?
Reflux is simply the ‘backward flow’ of the stomach contents up into the oesophagus. This is most commonly due to the natural immaturity and weakness of the muscle and valve that lead into the stomach therefore allowing the baby’s feed along with gastric acid to be involuntarily regurgitated. Most people only recognise reflux if the baby vomits, but this is simply not true and many babies who suffer never vomit. quite simply, the force at which the stomach contents come back up determines whether the baby projectile vomits, i...

Travelling across Time Zones with Baby

Travelling across Time Zones with Baby
Baby George has been wowing out antipodean friends during a recent tour of Australia and New Zealand. I wonder how the Royal couple coped on that long relentless journey with George.  Well, the summer season is nearly upon us and many parents face the dilemma of whether or not to travel with their baby. Some recommend - "Do all your traveling whilst they are still babes in arms and before they reach the toddler stage, as whilst they are still babies they are unaware or what's happening, stay in one place and are easier to manage". Oth...

More thoughts on the Poo Page!

After some in-depth market research I've decided against setting up a page on my website dedicated to "Is my baby's poo normal"..... Sadly the feeling was that pictures of poo would offend too many (and the general census of opinion is that the WWW already seems to be filled with an excess of c#‪#‎p‬!) Along with returning a complete...

So PLEASE SEND ME PICTURES OF YOUR BABY'S POO alo...

The Book Strikes Again!

The Book Strikes Again!
Our little Elliott was 3 months old yesterday. Last night he slept 11 hours straight and this has been the norm for the past couple of weeks. Different formula, different (HAPPY) baby. He's still slightly reacting to the hydrolysed proteins in the formula he is currently on so going over to a completely hypoallergenic one next week. Our GP tried to fob me off with colic as a diagnosis, despite me saying I suspected an allergy/intolerance in addition to his silent reflux. LAZY diagnosis Mr GP. Colic should be the last diagnosis after ruling ever...
